Early recognition and treatment of heart attack are critical. Women, the elderly, and clients with a history of diabetes may not have the classic heart attack symptoms of dull chest pain with radiation down the left arm. Instead, they can present with "atypical" symptoms such as nausea, vomiting, belching, indigestion, diaphoresis, dizziness, and fatigue.
(Option 1) Taking a careful history and evaluating for any sick contacts would be helpful in identifying food poisoning, but a more important initial step is to assess for a heart attack.
(Option 2) A viral infection is a possibility, but fever and myalgia are usually present during an episode of influenza.
(Option 4) Early intervention in stroke is also critical, and a neurologic assessment would take place after the acute coronary syndrome algorithm, especially with negative electrocardiography and serum heart enzyme levels.
